Brief Description of English with a Timeline

Well,

English is a language and it was the first poem by Geoffrey Chaucer aka “The Father of English” Chaucer was born in London most likely in the early 1340s. But who wrote English? The answer is not one guy it was the Anglo-Saxons Settlers( I think I will post a blog about them sooner or later ). After the Norman Conquest English was replaced for a while by the Anglo-Norman/Anglo-Norman French( A relative of French ), this was the end of Old English and Middle English, influenced by the Anglo-Norman. Middle English was aided by the invention of the Printing Press by Johannes Gutenberg so after a long, long, long period Modern English came and is used right now.

History of Christmas. Also who is Santa ?

ORIGINS OF CHRISTMAS / HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS
The origins of Christmas stem from both the pagan and Roman cultures. The Romans actually celebrated two holidays in the month of December. (The first was Saturnalia, a two-week festival honouring their god of agriculture Saturn). On December 25th, they celebrated the birth of Mithra, their sun god.

As Christianity spread across Europe, the Christian clergy could not curb the pagan customs and celebrations. Since no one knew Jesus’s date of birth, they adapted the pagan ritual into a celebration of His birthday.

People also believe that on this day Santa (who we will be talking about later) come and give gifts to children and for those who are being naughty he takes them away. people also go to church.

Now we come to our second point which is Who is Santa ?

SANTA CLAUS
Inspired by St. Nicholas, this Christmas tradition has Christian roots, rather than pagan ones. Born in southern Turkey in a village called patara on March 15 280 A.D to Theophanes ,Nonna, he was a bishop in the early Christian church and suffered persecution and imprisonment for his faith. Coming from a wealthy family, he was renowned for his generosity towards the poor and disenfranchised. The legends surrounding him abound, but the most famous is how he saved three daughters from being sold into slavery. There was no dowry to entice a man to marry them, so it was their father’s last resort. St. Nicholas is said to have tossed gold through an open window into the home, thus saving them from their fate. Legend has it that the gold landed in a sock drying by the fire, so children started hanging stockings by their fires in hopes that St. Nicholas would toss gifts into them. He died on 6 December 343 AD,Myra, Turkey.

History of Black Friday

Back in the 1950s, police in the city of Philadelphia used the term Black Friday to describe the chaos that occurred on the day after Thanksgiving, when hordes of suburban shoppers and tourists flooded into the city, Many stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices and often open early, sometimes as early as midnight or even on Thanksgiving. Some stores’ sales continue to Monday (“Cyber Monday”) or for a week (“Cyber Week”).
A Black Friday occurs on the day after Thanksgiving in the United States. Black Friday has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year in the United States. The practice may be linked with the idea of Santa Claus parades. Parades celebrating Thanksgiving often include an appearance by Santa at the end of the parade, with the idea that “Santa has arrived” or “Santa is just around the corner” because Christmas is always the next major Christian holiday following Thanksgiving. For many years, retailers pushed opening times on Black Friday earlier and earlier, eventually reaching midnight, before opening on the evening of Thanksgiving with the idea that “Santa has arrived” or “Santa is just around the corner” because Christmas is always the next major Christian holiday following Thanksgiving.
